Cuckoo Marans are known for their dark brown eggs and their “Cuckoo” barred plumage pattern.
Available at several different ages (see below). The hen in the photo shows how they look once they reach maturity.
Talk about a history lesson background: The Marans were developed in the French Commune of Marans. These is the place where they renamed the Temple of Saint-Etienne to the “Temple of Reason.” I guess it was the same reason that gave us the “Reign of Terror.”
The Marans breed was developed from fighting game chickens and improved by the introduction of Langshans. The Cuckoos are barred in feather pattern, but the barring is random or “Cuckoo”. They lay dark brown eggs.
