Green egg layers developed by Dr. Tom Whiting.
Several years ago, McMurray Hatchery acquired the “Whiting True Green,” which we raise up to be our green egg layers. This is a line of chickens developed by Dr. Tom Whiting to lay green eggs.
The green egg layers were derived from Red Sex link stock (ISA-Browns). As such, they are good egg layers. The parent stock of our bird’s parents lay over 300 eggs a year.
They can resemble an ISA-Brown, or there is a second, brown plumage pattern. Occasionally there will be some that are a lighter color, but in general they look similar to the birds we have pictured here.
The ones pictured are 14 weeks old. Notice that they already have a well-developed comb.
The eggs are the first eggs from young pullets. I showed them with some white eggs for comparison.
We get day old’s from McMurray and raise them up for sale as started pullets so you can add a green egg to your basket.
