Before You Order
We normally ship started pullets throughout the continental United States (49 states). However, until the weather cools, we will not be shipping. We will only have chickens available for local pick-up.
We cannot reserve chickens, even if the breed that you want is not currently available. If you want to buy chickens from us, you will need to place an order through our website for one or more of the breeds that we list as being available.
If you choose local pick-up from our farm near Waco, Texas, we will contact you by email with local pickup instructions. For local orders, the pick-up day is the same as the ship day.
Regardless of the shipping date or pick-up date, your credit card will be charged when you place your order because we do not have a way to delay payments.
Speckled Sussex are moderate layers. A gentle breed, you can tame them easily by feeding them by hand.
Available at several different ages (see below). The hen in the photo shows how they look once they reach maturity.
The Sussex breed comes from the old county of Sussex in England. One of the oldest English breeds, it comes in several different color variations. The Speckled is the oldest pattern and the speckles were developed to help the bird hide from predators by blending in with the low bushes typical of the area.
Originally developed as meat birds, they are dual purpose bird laying between 180-200 eggs per year. The eggs tend to be tinted toward the brown, but are not darkly colored.
A fairly docile breed, they tame easily by hand feeding.
